মহাপ্রয়াণের দিনটি

'শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ ভক্তিমালিকা' গ্রন্থটিতে স্বামী গাম্ভীরানন্দজী সেই মহাপ্রয়াণের দিনটির বর্ণনা দিচ্ছেন এইভাবে -- " ৪ঠা জুলাই, শুক্রবার, ১৯০২ খ্রীষ্টাব্দ -- উত্তর আমেরিকার স্বাধীনতার পুণ্যতিথি। প্রাতে চা-পানের আসরে কতই আমোদ-আহ্লাদ চলিল। তাহার পরদিবস শনিবার ও অমাবস্যা; সুতরাং স্বামীজীর মনে সেদিন শ্যামাপূজার সংকল্প উদিত হইল এবং তখনই স্বামী রামকৃষ্ণানন্দের পিতৃদেব তথায় আগমন করায় স্বামীজী সানন্দে তাঁহাকে ঐ অভিলাষ জ্ঞাপনপূর্বক মঠবাসীদের পূজার আয়োজন করিতে বলিলেন। তদনন্তর ঠাকুরঘরে যাইয়া ৮টা হইতে ১১টা পর্যন্ত গভীর ধ্যানে কাটাইলেন। তথা হইতে স্বামীজীর অবতরণকালে স্বামী প্রেমানন্দ তাঁহার অস্ফুট বাণী শুনিলেন --'যদি আর একটা বিবেকানন্দ থাকত তবে বুঝতে পারত বিবেকানন্দ কি করে গেল। কালে কিন্তু এমন শত শত বিবেকানন্দ জন্মাবে।' অতঃপর তিনি শুক্লযজুর্বেদের অংশবিশেষ ভাষ্যসহকারে স্বামী শুদ্ধানন্দকে পড়াইলেন। আহারান্তে বিশ্রামের পর পুনর্বার ব্রহ্মচারীদের গৃহে যাইয়া সংস্কৃতপাঠে যোগ দিলেন। বৈকালে স্বামী প্রেমানন্দের সহিত বেলুড় বাজার পর্যন্ত বেড়াইয়া আসিলেন এবং জানাইলেন যে, তাঁহার শরীরের অবস্থা উত্তম। ঐ ভ্রমণকালে একটি বেদবিদ্যালয়স্থাপনের আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করিলেন এবং ঐ বিষয়ে প্রেমানন্দের সহিত সুদীর্ঘ আলোচনা করিলেন। পরে সন্ধ্যায় মঠে প্রত্যাগমনপূর্বক সকলের কুশলসংবাদ জিজ্ঞাসান্তে নিজ কক্ষে প্রবেশ করিলেন  এবং সেবকের নিকট হইতে মালা চাহিয়া লইয়া তাঁহাকে বাহিরে যাইতে বলিলেন। পরে ভাগিরথীমাতার দিকে মুখ ফিরাইয়া ধ্যানে মগ্ন হইলেন। একঘন্টা অতীত হইলে তিনি সেবককে ডাকিয়া বাতায়নগুলি খুলিয়া পা টিপিতে ও হাওয়া করিতে বলিলেন। এইভাবে আধঘন্টা অতীত হইলে তিনি দীর্ঘনিঃশ্বাস ত্যাগ করিলেন; এক মিনিট পরে আবার ঐরূপ নিঃশ্বাস পড়িল।  তারপর তিনি ক্লান্ত শিশুর ন্যায় জগজ্জননীর ক্রোড়ে চিরসমাধিতে নিমগ্ন হইলেন। স্বামী প্রেমানন্দ প্রভৃতি সকলে আসিয়া দেখিলেন, তাঁহার মুখমণ্ডল জ্যোতির্ময় ও বিস্ফারিত নেত্রদ্বয় তেজঃপূর্ন।“

 অগাস্ট ১৯০২ 'প্রবুদ্ধ ভারত' সংখ্যায় স্বামীজীর মহাসমাধির পর লেখা হল -- '... In Swami Vivekananda, threfore , we lose a patriot-sage who deserves the foremost rank among the national workers of the present age. Of the lifestory of this extraordinary man the facts are as well known as they are few. His original name was Narendra nath Dutt. He was born in a Kayastha family and like hundreds of other common alumni of the University, he was educated, English fashion, and graduated himself in the usual course of things. It was of course, predicted of him by an astrologer, even in his young age, that he would never enter the path of Grihasthashrama or worldly life. But such a prediction could not then mean anything perhaps except a vague sort of despair to his mother who probably, like most mothers, looked forward to his becoming a pleader or a clerk, earn a living and support a family. There is also no record to shew what idea the Swami himself had of his future. All that is known is that his acquaintance with Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa discovered to them both a vast but latent fund of spiritual potentiality in boy Nrendra, and the Guru's blessings and affection soon settled the course of disciple's future. He resolved to renounce a worldly career, and to devote all his powers and energies to go forth preaching the gospel of practical Vedantism.'  

মাত্র উনচল্লিশ বছর বয়সে স্বামীজীর মহাপ্রয়াণ ঘটে। মিস ম্যাকলাউড স্মৃতিচারণ করেছেন -- "One day in in April (1902) he said, 'I have nothing in the world. I haven't a penny to myself. I have given away everything that  has never be given to me.' ... 'At Belur Math one day, while Sister Nivedita was distributing prizes for some athletics, I was standing in swamiji's bedroom at the Math, at the window, watching, and he said to me, 'I shall never see forty.'
