শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের সন্ন্যাসী সন্তানেরা

লণ্ডনে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের প্রভাবে এসে পড়া ও ক্রমশ তাঁর মতাদর্শের অনুগামিনী হয়ে ওঠা, এই সবই যেন নিবেদিতার জীবনরঙ্গমঞ্চে অবশ্যম্ভাবী পর্যায় ছিল। এই বিষয়ে স্বামী গম্ভীরানন্দজী লিখছেন – “... এইরূপে লণ্ডনের শিক্ষিত, সংস্কৃতিসম্পন্ন ও ধার্মিক সমাজ এই হিন্দু-সন্ন্যাসীর ব্যক্তিত্ব, মতামত ও গুণাবলী সম্বন্ধে বহু বিবরণ অবগত হইলেন এবং তাহার ফলে তাঁহাদের জ্ঞানস্পৃহা ও ঔৎসুক্য বর্ধিত হওয়ায় স্বামীজী নিত্যনূতন অনুরাগী লাভ করিতে থাকিলেন। ইংরেজগণকে এইভাবে হিন্দু-মতের সমর্থক ও তাঁহার নিজের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধালু দেখিয়া স্বামীজী বিশেষ সন্তুষ্ট হইলেন। তিনি সর্বপ্রযত্নে এই স্বল্পকালের অবস্থানের সুযোগে বৃটিশ সাম্রাজ্যের হৃদয়কেন্দ্রে একটা স্থায়ী দাগ রাখিয়া যাইতে কৃতসংকল্প হইলেন। তাঁহার গুণে মুগ্ধ হইয়া যাঁহারা আসিয়াছিলেন তাঁহাদের মধ্যে অন্যতমা ছিলেন শ্রীমতী মার্গারেট ই নোবল, তিনি পরে ভগিনী নিবেদিতা নামে ভারতে ও ভারতেতর দেশে সুপরিচিত হইয়াছিলেন।

 তাঁহার নিকট চমৎকার লাগিয়াছিল স্বামীজীর ধর্মতত্ত্ব বিষয়ে অভিনব বাণী এবং দার্শনিক ক্ষেত্রে বিচারপূত নবীন চিন্তাধারা; আর তিনি লক্ষ্য করিয়াছিলেন, ‘স্বামীজীর আহ্বান বিঘোষিত হইয়াছিল, মানুষের মধ্যে যাহা কিছু সুন্দর ও শক্তিপ্রদ তাহারই নামে, পরন্তু মানুষের মধ্যে যাহা কিছু নীচ ও অশিব তাহার উপর উহা নির্ভর করে নাই।’ স্বামীজীর সহিত সাক্ষাতের পূর্বে এবং কিছুকাল পরেও মার্গারেট ইংলণ্ডে শিক্ষাকার্যে ব্রতী ছিলেন এবং তিনি স্বপ্রতিষ্ঠিত একটি বিদ্যালয়য়ের অধ্যক্ষা ছিলেন। এতদ্ব্যতীত শিক্ষাকার্যের পরিপুষ্ট সাধনকল্পে সংস্থাপিত ‘সিসেম ক্লাবে’রও তিনি একজন প্রধান সদস্যা ছিলেন। তাঁহার বন্ধুবর্গের মধ্যে সকলেই ছিলেন শান্ত প্রকৃতি ও সুশিক্ষিত। আধুনিক সমস্ত চিন্তাধারা ও উহার প্রভাবের প্রতি তাঁহার একটা প্রগাঢ় অনুরাগ ছিল। স্বামীজীর বাক্যগুলি তিনি প্রথমেই আপন নিকষে কষিয়া বুঝিলেন, তাঁহার পক্ষে উহার অনেকটা নির্বিচারে গ্রহণ করা কঠিন। কিন্তু স্বামীজী জানিতেন, নিবেদিতার এই দ্বিধাকে নববার্তায় অন্তঃপ্রবিষ্ট হওয়ার প্রাথমিক প্রয়াস বলিয়াই ধরা উচিত, কারণ তিনি বুঝিয়াছিলেন, শ্রদ্ধামিশ্রিত-বিচারপরায়ণ নিবেদিতা যদি একবার তাঁহার মতবাদ পরীক্ষাপূর্বক স্বীকার করেন, তবে তিনিই কালে হইবেন এই নববাণী প্রচারের সর্বাগ্রণী মুখপাত্রী। নিবেদিতা নিজেও বলিয়া গিয়াছেন, স্বামীজীর মতসমূহ সম্পূর্ণরূপে মানিয়া লইতে তাঁহার বহু মাস লাগিয়াছিল। আবার স্বামীজীর সহিত তাঁহার প্রথম সাক্ষাতের যে চমৎকার বিবরণটি তিনি দিয়াছেন, তাহা হইতে ইহাই প্রতীত হয় যে, তিনি প্রথম দিন হইতেই স্বামীজীর প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা পোষণ করিতেন। ফলতঃ সেদিন হইতেই মার্গারেট স্বামীজীর কথাগুলির গভীর অনুধ্যানে রত হইয়াছিলেন এবং স্বামীজীর লণ্ডন ত্যাগের পূর্বেই নিবেদিতা তাঁহাকে আচার্যপদে বরণ করিয়াছিলেন।” (যুগনায়ক বিবেকানন্দ, স্বামী গম্ভীরানন্দ প্রণীত, ২য় খণ্ড, উদ্বোধন কার্যালয়) 

 অবশেষে ভারতে এসে পৌঁছান নিবেদিতা। কিন্তু তার আগে নিবেদিতাকে ( তখন তিনি মার্গারেট নোবল ) লেখা স্বামীজীর একটি অনুপ্রেরণাময় পত্রের উল্লেখ না করলেই নয়। ১৮৯৬ সালের ৭ জুন তারিখে স্বামীজী পত্রটি লিখছেন, ৬৩, সেন্ট জর্জেস রোড, লণ্ডন এই ঠিকানা থেকে। পত্রটি এইরকম–

            

           Dear Miss Noble,

                  My ideal can be put into a few words and that is: to preach into mankind their divinity, and how to make it manifest in every movement of life.

                  This world is in chains of superstition. I pity the oppressed, whether man or woman, and I pity more the oppressors.

                  One idea that I see clear as daylight is that misery is caused by ignorance and nothing else. Who will give the world light? Sacrifice in the past has been the law, it will be, alas, for ages to come. The earth’s bravest and best will have to sacrifice themselves for the good of many, for the welfare of all. Buddhas by the hundred are necessary with eternal love and pity.

                   Religions of the world have become lifeless mockeries. What the world wants is character. The world is in need of those whose life is one burning love, selfless. That love will make every word tell like thunderbolt.

                   It is no superstition with you, I am sure, you have the making in you of a world-mover, and others will also come. Bold words and bolder deeds are what we want. Awake, awake great one! The world is burning with misery. Can you sleep? Let us call and call till the sleeping gods awake, till the god within answers to the call. What more is in life? What greater work? The details come to me as I go. I never make plans. Plans grow and work themselves. I only say, awake, awake!

এই পত্র বিষয়ে প্রব্রাজিকা আত্মপ্রাণা মাতাজী লিখছেন – “There was no direction to work given in the letter. Margaret understood that Swami had taken her offer of services seriously, but she had to wait for a more direct hint. One day, during a conversation, the Swami turned to her and said: ‘I have plans for the women of my own country in which you, I think, could be a great help for me,’ and it was then she knew that she had waited for some light to dispel the darkness that was obscuring her progress. She now saw a ray of light and hopefully desired to follow it. Years later, after the publication of her book, The web of Indian life, she wrote to a friend:

                          Suppose Swami had not come to London that time! Life would have been like a headless torso. For I always knew that I was waiting for something, I always said that a call would come, and it did.”  ( Sister Nivedita, Pravrajika Atmaprana, Sister Nivedita Girl's School )
