শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের সন্ন্যাসী সন্তানেরা

পাশ্চাত্যে বহু খ্যাতনামা ব্যক্তিত্ব বিবেকানন্দ প্রভায় আলোকিত হয়েছিলেন। এই বিষয়ে স্বামী চেতনানন্দজী লিখছেন -- “During his lecture tour, Vivekananda came in contact with many well known Western personalities. Robert Ingersoll, the famous orator and agnostic, cautioned Swamiji not to be too bold because people were intolerant of alien religious ideas. "Fifty years ago," he said, "you would have been hanged if you had come to preach in this country, or you would have been burnt alive. You would have been stoned out of the villages if you had come even much later."
The great electrical inventor Nikola Tesla was impressed hearing Swamiji talk about the Vedantic prana (energy), akasha (space), and the kalpas (cycles) — which according to Tesla were the only theories modern science could entertain. Vivekananda also met John D. Rockefeller; and the swami tried to help him understand that God had given him wealth so that he might have an opportunity to do good to others. Rockefeller was annoyed that anyone would dare talk to him that way; he left the room without even saying goodbye. A week later he visited Swamiji and brought a paper that set forth his plans to donate an enormous sum of money to a public institution. "Well, there you are," he said. "You must be satisfied now, and you can thank me for it." Swamiji quietly read it and said: "It is for you to thank me."
Harriet Monroe and Ella Wheeler Wilcox, two famous American poets, heard Vivekananda's lectures and became his great admirers. Swamiji also left a lasting impression on Professor William James of Harvard University; Dr. Lewis G. Janes, president of the Brooklyn Ethical Association; Mrs. J. J. Bagley, the wife of the Governor of Michigan; Sarah Farmer, the founder of Green Acre Conference; Mrs. Sara C. Bull, the wife of Ole Bull, the celebrated Norwegian violinist; Sarah Bernhardt, the famous French actress; and Madanje.Emma Galye, the well-known French opera singer. Calve wrote in her autobiography: "It has been my good fortune and my joy to know a man who truly 'walked with God,' a noble being, a saint, a philosopher, and a true friend. His influence upon my spiritual life was profound. He opened up new horizons before me, enlarging and vivifying my religious ideas and ideals, teaching me a broader understanding of truth. My soul will bear him eternal gratitude. The extraordinary man was a Hindu monk of the Order of the Vedanta. He was called the Swami Vivekananda, and was widely known in America for his religious teaching.” ( God lived with them, Swami Chetanananda, Advaita Ashrama )
অন্যদিকে পাশ্চাত্য বিজয়ের পর ভারতে প্রত্যাবর্তনকালে কলম্বোয় পেয়েছিলেন অভূতপূর্ব অভ্যর্থনা। এই নিয়ে স্বামী গম্ভীরানন্দজী লিখছেন -- “স্বামীজীর এই অভ্যর্থনার বিবরণ আমরা একখানি স্থানীয় ইংরেজী সংবাদপত্র ( সিলোন ইনডিপেণ্ডেন্ট ) হইতে অনুবাদ করিয়া দিলাম: ‘কলম্বোবাসী হিন্দুসমাজের ইতিহাসে ১৫ জানুয়ারী একটি স্মরণীয় দিন, কারণ সেদিন তাহারা ধর্মসঙ্ঘসমূহের মধ্যে পবিত্রতম ভারতীয় সন্ন্যাসিসম্প্রদায়ের অন্তর্ভুক্ত অশেষ সদগুণবিভূষিত অত্যাশ্চর্য ক্ষমতাশালী আচার্যপ্রবর স্বামী বিবেকানন্দকে স্বাগতসম্ভাষণ জানাইয়াছিল। তাঁহার আগমন ছিল যুগপ্রবর্তনকারী -- সেদিন হইতে অভূতপূর্ব অধ্যাত্ম ক্রিয়াকলাপের নবজাগরণের সূত্রপাত হইয়াছিল।

‘দিবা অবসান হইয়া রাত্রিসমাগমের প্রাক্কালে যখন হিন্দুশাস্ত্রে ভগবদ্ভক্তিপ্রকাশের জন্য সর্বোত্তমরূপে বিহিত সন্ধ্যাকাল সমাগত হইয়া ভাবী গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ঘটনাবলীর সূচনা করিল, তখন স্বামী নিরঞ্জনানন্দ ও অপর কয়েকজনের দ্বারা পরিবৃত ও গেরুয়াবস্ত্রে সজ্জিত সুঠামদেহী, সৌম্যমূর্তি, আয়ত সমুজ্জ্বল নয়নবিশিষ্ট এক ঋষির অভ্যুদয় হইল। সমবেত জনতা তখন দেখিল যে, স্টীম লঞ্চখানি ঐ ঋষিবরকে লইয়া জেটির অভিমুখে আসিতেছে তখন সেই বিশাল জনমণ্ডলীর আনন্দোচ্ছ্বাস ও প্রীতিপ্রকাশের দৃশ্য কথায় বলিয়া বুঝানো যায় না। তাহাদের কলরব হর্ষধ্বনি ও করতালি সমুদ্রের তরঙ্গভঙ্গধ্বনিকেও ছাপাইয়া গিয়াছিল।” ( যুগনায়ক বিবেকানন্দ, স্বামী গম্ভীরানন্দ, দ্বিতীয় খণ্ড, উদ্বোধন কার্যালয় )
